Ah, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat! You know it—*that* stunning little slice of paradise wedged between Nice and Monaco, where the billionaires go to feel middle-class. If you haven’t heard of it, don’t worry; it’s the French Riviera’s best-kept secret, and we’re about to ruin that for you.
So, Where the Heck Is It?
Imagine someone took the French Riviera, scooped up a little peninsula, added some ridiculous views, and sprinkled it with private mansions so posh that the security cameras have security cameras. That’s Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for you. It’s just a hop, skip, and several tax brackets away from Nice. Even the drive here feels like a movie scene, complete with winding roads, glittering sea views, and the inevitable existential crisis about your life choices.
So, what not to miss??
The Villas: Pretend You’re a Millionaire for an Hour
Speaking of things you can’t afford: the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. This place is a pink, seaside palace with gardens so immaculate you’ll start questioning your ability to keep a cactus alive. It was built by a Rothschild (obviously), and it’s basically Versailles with fewer tourists and more yachts in the background. If you are a fan of Bridgetons, you will love it here! These gardens are incredible and the villa itself is a dream!

Insider Tip: Head to the tearoom here and indulge in a ridiculously overpriced pastry while soaking in the view. If anyone asks, you’re "in real estate" and considering "a little place on the Cap." Fake it ‘til you make it. Just make sure you go either before noon or after 14h o'clock. That is when ALL the french people eat, so it might be difficult to get a table.
Walk It Off: The Coastal Path
Once you’ve had your fill of gawking at mansions you’ll never live in, hit up the Sentier du Littoral. This coastal path is like a postcard come to life. The trail takes you along the edge of the peninsula, with the Mediterranean on one side and, yes, more insane villas on the other. It’s so insanely gorgeous !!
Bonus Tip: The path is free (hooray!), but wear decent shoes. The trail has some rocky bits, and let’s be real—you don’t want to twist an ankle here. No one wants their Riviera moment ruined by an embarrassing ambulance ride. We made the walk in 2 hours, with an ice-cream stop and many, many photo-stops!
The Food: You Came for the Views, Stayed for the… Tapenade?
After all that hiking (or gentle strolling, let’s be honest), you’ll want to fuel up. Cap Ferrat isn’t about street food—it’s about bougie bistros and seafood fresh enough to slap you. Try La Table du Royal for a meal so good you’ll forget the price tag. If you’d rather not remortgage your home, grab some picnic supplies from Le Village and enjoy a DIY feast overlooking the sea.
Secret Tip: If you head to La Civette in the village center, you can score a café au lait without having to sell a kidney. Locals hang out here, which means it’s good and won’t make you cry when the bill comes.

The Beaches: Where You Go to Feel Fancy
Let’s be real: You’re not coming here for the budget travel experience. But hey, you’re on vacation! Paloma Beach is the star here. It's one of those spots where you could rent a sunbed and drop €50 on a club sandwich—or, if you’re like the rest of us, just pack your own baguette and look longingly at the folks who didn’t.
Pro Tip: Want to feel fancy without the price tag? Head to Plage des Fossettes. It’s public, it’s beautiful, and it’s where the locals go to avoid the tourist traps. Just don’t ask them for recommendations—they don’t want to share.
Insider Tips to Level Up Your Experience:
1. Don’t Drive if you can help it. Parking is about as scarce as finding someone here who pays less than €10 for wine. Instead, take a bus or Uber it.
2. Go Off-Season. Summer’s great and all, but it’s also when everyone and their yacht-owning uncle shows up. Try visiting in May or September. The weather’s still dreamy, but you’ll actually be able to get a table at that cute café. All the photos you see were taken in may, the sun was at rendez-vous !
3. Rent a Boat (or make friends with someone who has one). Trust me, nothing beats seeing the Cap from the water. And yes, you’ll feel like you’re living in a James Bond movie.
In Conclusion: Treat Your Self!
Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat might be the playground of the rich and richer, but there’s no reason why you can’t sneak in and enjoy it, too. You don’t have to own a yacht or a private jet—just a solid pair of walking shoes, a bottle of rosé, and a sense of adventure.
And who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll come back here in your own yacht. (Or, you know, just keep faking it. Either way.)
I am working on a future blog post about it's history, so subscribe to my emails or follow my facebook / instagram to know when I post !
